'I'll slaughter you': Mum cops threats over rent money

A MAN has been released from prison after a making "serious" threats to kill his mum over money for rent and food.

On the morning of December 7, the man's mother - who has a domestic violence order against him - asked her son to chip in some money to the household as he'd been living there for two weeks, a court heard.

He began to yell at her, "I'll break back in and I'll slaughter you", and also threatened to pay a "junkie" to come and kill her.

When speaking to police, the man said he was "serious" about the threats at the time and knew he wasn't allowed to be living at the house.

The man - who can't be named to protect his victim's identity - yesterday pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court to breaching a domestic violence order via video from the watchhouse.

Defence lawyer Ben Rynderman told the court his client had been in a hospital psychiatric facility, but his mum - who is also mentally ill - asked him to discharge himself and come to the home.

The court further heard the man seeks to move to Adelaide to be near his "supportive" family if crisis accommodation on the Coast falls through.

He was on a 12-month probation for a domestic violence breach at the time of the offence.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist sentenced him to four months' imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
