Inglewood Roosters powering ahead with a win in BRL
RUGBY LEAGUE: Brent Bennett was players’ player as Inglewood beat leaders Tenterfield 44-14 in the top of the table clash at Inglewood in the Border Rugby League.
Inglewood coach Brent Osborne said Bennett was always strong in the front row.
“We were down on players for the game so Brent played most of the game,” Osborne said.
“Brandon Sauverain moved from centre to hooker and received three player of the year points for his performance.
“Second rower Tim West played 80 minutes which was a pretty big effort second game back from injury.
“Our whole forward pack went well, they are our biggest asset,” he said.
Fullback Brent Hearne was strong for the winners and Joe Frey played in an unfamiliar position at five-eighth to score two tries.
Inglewood scored seven tries and Hearne landed seven goals from seven attempts and Osborne one from one.
Frey scored two tries, with Osborne, Hearne, Jamie Meddings, Sauverain and Tim West scoring one each.
Osborne said Tenterfield halves Coedie Tandy and Jarrod McIntosh provided plenty of spark for the Tigers.
“Levi McGrady was a multiple try scorer for Tenterfield and played well on the wing,” Osborne said.
“He has also played for the Border under-18 team this year.”
Both teams went into the game with four on the bench.
The Roosters will now travel to Killarney on Saturday to play at Charlie Andrews Oval in a competition game which will double as the Bob Garred Memorial game.
In the other men’s game at the weekend, Wallangarra beat Killarney 44-18.
