Inglewood has qualified for the Patron’s Cup final
INGLEWOOD has qualified for the Patron's Cup final with a 48-26 victory against Killarney at Macintyre Sports Complex on Saturday.
The home side led 22-12 at half-time.
Inglewood captain-coach Matt Gainey gave a lot of the credit for the win to the forwards.
"Brent Bennett is in his early 30s but just seemed to keep going," Gainey said.
"He led the forwards well all day."
Bennett was well supported by Gavin Wright and Brent Osbourne. Gainey scored a try and kicked six goals.
Inglewood will now play the unbeaten Goondiwindi Blue when they meet in the second round for the Patron's Cup.
Tenterfield won the Caldwell Cup game at Sullivan Oval when it beat Stanthorpe 52-10.
The Tigers led 10-0 after 10 minutes and were never headed.
Stanthorpe president Norm Crisp said his side was outweighed in the forwards and outplayed across the park.
"Hooker Chris Hills was our best," Crisp said.
Wallangarra scored two late tries to beat Goondiwindi Maroon 34-26.
