Inglewood to host state champs in SSAA shooting

SHOOTING: The Inglewood branch of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) will host the 2016 State Lever Action Championships at its Glenarbon range on September 2-3.

Club publicity officer Tom Donald said he expected 40 to 50 shooters to compete in the championships.

“Lever action rifles are the type of guns you see in the old John Wayne Wild West movies,” he said.

“It is a class of shooting in SSAA and it is the turn of our zone to host the championships. We put our hand up to host the event as our range is good for lever action shooting.

“The club has a lease on 320ha of land so we have plenty of room at the four separate ranges in the complex on Bosnjaks Rd, Glenarbon.”

The turn-off to the range is 20km from Inglewood on the highway to Yelarbon. The range is then 7.5km off the highway.

Donald said up to five members of the host club would compete in the state championships.

“As we are the hosts, we need most of our members on the ground to manage the event,” he said.

The club shoots each Sunday and twice on the fourth weekend of the month.

The fourth weekend includes pistol shoots on Saturday afternoons and Sundays which attracts club members who live as far away as the Gold Coast.
