Injuries mar wins for top two in Spain

REAL Madrid and Barcelona both had wins to strengthen their spots at one and two on the La Liga ladder but both were overshadowed by serious injuries to players in each of the games.

Madrid maintained a one-point lead over its biggest rival with a 3-1 success at bottom club Osasuna with Cristiano Ronaldo among the goals.

That result came a few hours after Barca put six goals past Alaves with Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez all hitting the net in the 6-0 win.

In that game, Barca's Aleix Vidal suffered a dislocated right ankle that will keep him out for five months, while Osasuna's Tano Bonnin went down with a double leg fracture against the league leaders.

"There is no such a difference (between the sides). It is true it was the leader against last in the table, but you have to play the games and the opponents always make it difficult against Madrid," Real boss Zinedine Zidane said of his team's win.

"We have to suffer, but in the end we got what we came for."
