Inquest opens into death of woman
THE inquest into the death of Stanthorpe woman Grace Thompson - who was killed in a head-on collision in July last year - was opened yesterday.
Five people were involved in the Braeside accident on June 30 last year, which claimed the life of Mrs Thompson, 75, due to internal injuries.
Her husband Bruce Thompson, who was 79 at the time, was also hospitalised at St Vincent's Hospital for a number of days.
The driver of the second vehicle, Tanya Smith, was driving from Warwick to Stanthorpe when the accident occurred.
She was trapped in her vehicle for hours as firefighters cut her free, before being airlifted to Brisbane. It is believed Mrs Thompson rushed to her aid, not knowing the full extent of her own injuries.
In the second vehicle with Ms Smith was 17-year-old Kodey Fox and a third passenger, a 19-year-old man from Glen Aplin.
The inquest, being held in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court, is expected to continue until Thursday with evidence being presented on the cause of the crash.
