International team plays well in polocrosse at Cunningham

POLOCROSSE: Playing in the Cunningham Polocrosse Club carnival has worked wonders for the United Kingdom side which won the A-grade mixed competition at Cunningham on Sunday afternoon.

After the first game at Cunningham just before lunch on Saturday, United Kingdom vice-captain Jason Webb said it was good to have games on grass as most of the games in the United Kingdom were on sand fields.

The only grass field games for United Kingdom before the Cunningham carnival were games three weeks ago against Zambia in Zambia.

"At this time of the year, most of the fields in United Kingdom are muddy,” he said.

In their first game against Cunningham in A-grade mixed, United Kingdom trailed 11-4 before reducing the margin to 19-12.

United Kingdom hit form in the rest of their games to win the A-grade mixed competition from runners-up Cunningham.

Tara won the beaten teams in A-grade mixed.

United Kingdom captain Kerry Bean said despite the early loss, she was happy with how her team was playing at the Cunningham carnival.

"We played better and better in the first game against Cunningham,” Bean said.

"Our team is grateful to the Cunningham club for finding us eight to 10 horses to play in the weekend carnival.

"We couldn't have asked for any more support than what Cunningham has provided.”

Tansey won the A-grade open competition from the Queensland men's team. Guyra 1 was beaten teams winner.

Hosts Cunningham 2 won D grade from Tambo with Clifton beaten teams winner.

Cunningham 4 won F grade from Stanley River and Cunningham 3 was runner up to Grafton in E grade.

Guyra was winner and Cunningham runner up in juniors.

Gold Coast 1 were victorious in B grade from the Queensland under-21 women's team while Bauhinia won C grade from Walcha.

The horse draw for the World Cup will be on Tuesday morning and teams will have five days to become accustomed to their horses before the start of the cup.

The first action in the Adina Polocrosse World Cup will be on April 22 at IOR Morgan Park and the first action in the Barastoc Interstate Series will be on April 23.
