Intruders leave shop ransacked
SMASHED windows, broken phones and printers, holes in walls and blood spatters.
Broken garden tools, a dinted kettle and a soiled toilet are just some of the things that confronted Rickard Motors employee Mark Selfe yesterday morning.
But did the miscreants get what they were after?
"If they took something you could kind of understand why someone would break in," Mr Selfe said.
"But nothing is missing; they just made an awful mess." The business in Wood St was turned into a crime scene with police investigating the break in.
With a bus pass, health care card, blood and fingerprints left behind police are confident the culprit won't be hard to find.
"We don't keep money on the premises, but I had a bit of change in my desk draw that hadn't been touched," Mr Selfe said.
"It seems as though they couldn't find what they were looking for and got angry and smashed everything else in sight."
A steel garden rake was used in an attempt to break into owner Jim Rickard's office. However, they were unable to crack the hardened glass.
"What do you do?" Mr Rickard said.
"It's just a mess and it's disappointing we have people in town that would do something like this.
"It's just frustrating we are left to clean it up, it's annoying we will have to get holes in walls repaired and new office equipment."
Mr Rickard said neighbours heard noises about 10.30pm on Tuesday night.
"We think that's when it happened, but others said they heard noise again at 1am," he said.
"It looks like whoever did it was probably drunk. It's just a hassle I could do without."
Mr Rickard said while they were insured there would still be a considerable excess to pay.
"I can't really put a dollar on the amount of damage," he said.
"There's an expensive diagnostic kit that's just been thrown around so we will have to see if it still works." If you have any information call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
