It's not all about cricket this Australia Day

GOLF: The good money is on the Lesters and Morrisons to win the best dressed buggy at the Australia Day golf on Monday at the Warwick Golf Club.

Warwick Real Estate principal Neil Carney is sponsoring the day with great prizes for teams and individuals.

"I am a very patriotic Australian and have sponsored the day for the past four or five years,” Carney said.

"The Warwick course is one of the greenest in the region in the dry weather. It is good that the council provides recycled water for irrigation.”

Club captain Tony Kahler said there would be prizes for the best dressed buggy and best dressed Aussie-themed team.

"We have 40 players so far and are hoping for 100,” Kahler said.

"This day is building up to be one of our best charity days. Money raised will go towards maintenance of the course.”

Judy and Bob Lester, together with Kath and Charlie Morrison, do up their buggies for events like Australia Day and Jumpers and Jazz in July and will be two of the hardest teams to beat for best dressed on Monday.

The bar and kitchen in the clubhouse will be closed for the public holiday on Monday but Warwick Golf Club members will have a bar on the deck from 11am. There will also be a sausage sizzle.

Registration at the pro shop on 46613664 or by 11.30am Monday.

There will be a shotgun start at noon for the ambrose competition. Cost is $16 for golf club members and $31 for non-members.
