IT'S ON: Mad beats at Warwick headspace event today
HEADSPACE Warwick will swing open its doors to the community today with a huge event, to help get Southern Downs Youth Week under way.
It all happens at 66 Albion St, between 11am and 5pm.
In a move designed to showcase not only the centre but the staff and the services, as well as have a bit of fun, headspace manager Travis Maguire said it was all made possible with leftover funding.
"We wanted to do something a little bit different,” he said.
"We haven't done something like this at this location and with the funding we thought we should put on a bit of a party for Youth Week.”
With DJs and MCs dropping in from a Brisbane record label, visitors will have the chance to learn from the pros and give it a go themselves.
This will all culminate in a big festival of beats and music beginning at 2pm.
"Even kids who have picked up some skills at the workshops during the day and want to showcase their skills, then this will be the forum to do that,” Mr Maguire said.
"We've also got an indigenous artist coming up as well, who'd going to do some amazing work in a large mural for us, which we'll display in the centre.”
Mr Maguire said the open day was a chance for Warwick youth to try something they wouldn't normally see.
"We'll also have a longboard crew in as well, so there's a whole heap of interesting and cool stuff to get stuck into,” he said.
"You can have a walk-through of the centre and meet the staff.
"Ask questions, get answers, familiarise yourself with the place and feel comfortable about coming in and talking to use if needed.”
Bluebird Kitchen and Bar will cater the event and the best part is, it's all free.
The open day and activities are aimed at people between the ages of 12 to 25 but all are invited and welcome.
