Jacko is local winner in major Warwick fight night

BOXING: Jacko McMahon beat a boxer from South Australia in the last fight on the program in the Warwick Boxing Tournament on Saturday at WIRAC.

Co-organiser Damien Lawler said there were 22 fights on the program from 2pm to early in the evening.

Rose City club winners included McMahon and Teresa-Marie Poole while Luke Gillies went down on points in his first fight.

Warwick Boxing Club members Will Pratt, David Kern and Andrew Jones all fought well before going down on points.

"Jacko won a unanimous points decision against a boxer he had earlier beaten in Adelaide,” Lawler said.

"The Rose City boxer took control of the fight from the first round.

"Jacko landed some good shots with his overhand right.”

Poole won on points from a boxer from Bundaberg to take her record to four wins and one loss.

Lawler said Poole was involved in a close fight.

"Teresa-Marie took the fight to her opponent, they came to blows in the centre of the ring and stayed there trading punches,” Lawler said.

Lawler was happy with the crowd of 300 who supported the fight night.

Money raised will go to facilities at the Warwick Boxing Club gym in Albert St.

Lawler said another Warwick Boxing Tournament would be held next year at WIRAC.
