Jaiden claims orienteering award in NSW

AFTER only 14 months in the sport, Jaiden Fidge has won a state title in orienteering.

The Warwick State High School Year 8 student won a New South Wales title at Orange at the weekend in the 14 years age group.

He won on a 2.5km course on Saturday and backed up to win the championships on a 3km course on Sunday.

He represented Darling Downs last year in the state championships and won two gold and one silver medal in 13 years.

This year, Jaiden has been joined in the Darling Downs team by siblings Montana and Cayleb. All three are students at Warwick High and will compete in the state championships in July at Wivenhoe Dam.

Cayleb won a Queensland 12 years middle distance championship in Brisbane on Sunday.

A member of the Bullecourt Boulder Bounders (BBB) Orienteering Club, Jaiden competes an average three times a month and was part of the holiday camp in the April school holidays. He has represented Darling Downs in Aussie Rules.

Fellow BBB member Liz Bourne was third in the New South Wales titles in her age group.

The next event is at Goomburra on May 31.
