JAILED: Judge slams man for selling 'poison' to community

A JUDGE has condemned ice and ecstasy as "poison in the community" while sentencing a man who pleaded guilty to selling the drugs five times.

Darren Andrew Bradley fronted Warwick District Court yesterday and apologised for the poor decisions he made in 2015, when he was a middle man for a drug trafficker.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to five counts of supplying a schedule 1 drug.

Judge Leanne Clare said the former addict was involved in street-level drug supply for two months.

"I'm sure you know better than anyone the misery that these things can do to families and there are victims of crime as a result of the drug use that is rampant," Judge Clare said.

The exact quantities of the drugs Bradley supplied were unknown, but crown prosecutor Sam Bain said on one occasion Bradley supplied $500 worth of ecstasy while on another he was paid $600 for ice.

Defence lawyer Frank Martin said Bradley had previously been in jail but was released on parole in April 2016 and hadn't reoffended since his release.

The court heard the Charlton man had been taking care of his two children since being released from jail because their mother was mistreating them.

"From then, he had a wakeup call with his boy and girl," Mr Martin said.

Judge Clare said Bradley's record showed he had been involved with drugs for a number of years but recently he had taken his responsibilities as a father seriously, which showed hope for the future.

Bradley was sentenced to 15 months' jail with a parole release date set for June 7 this year.

Convictions were recorded.

"I hope then that you can rebuild your life with your children and put all of this behind you, but you will have those very strict conditions of parole on your shoulder to make sure you don't reoffend," Judge Clare said.
