Jaime confident on Cowboys' chances in preliminary finals

RUGBY LEAGUE: After being voted the best for Warwick in last Sunday's major semi-final for the reserve-grade side, halfback Jaime Abbas is confident his side can win the preliminary final against Valleys on Sunday at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

"We beat them in both games during the season but finals are always harder games," Abbas said.

"It is a whole new ball game compared to club games."

Abbas won the players' player award in the loss to Gatton.

He was the link between forwards and backs and listed Jarred Smail and Morgan Taylor as the two players he combined with most on Sunday.

"We are 100 per cent ready to go this weekend, the team was disappointed with our first 20 minutes last week when we conceded three tries," Abbas said.

"The team doesn't usually have lapses; we grind it out the whole game."

Abbas was captain in the Cowboys under-18 grand final two years ago in a loss to Valleys and wants to again enjoy grand final action.

"Losing one makes me more determined but we have to win this week to be part of the action on grand-final day," he said.
