Jellyfish put sting on Sunshine Coast beaches

A SPATE of jellyfish stings have been reported across the Sunshine Coast over the past week.

A Noosa woman was badly stung by a morbakka jellyfish - a close relative of the irukandji - while swimming in the Noosa River.

It was reported that there were "loads of jellyfish in the Noosa river at the moment".

Similar stings have been reported at Cotton Tree, Kings Beach, Bribie Island and Rainbow Beach.

One woman reported an "enormous amount" of blue bottles on the beach from Peregian to Coolum, saying she will not be "letting my kids in the ocean right now".
