Jess Wallace and Grace Parsons defend brilliantly in Warwick hockey

HOCKEY: Many would argue the key players in any sport are the defenders and that was the case in Warwick ladies’ hockey on Saturday when there was a nil-all draw in the game between Saints and Corinthians/Wyverns.

Jess Wallace (Saints)and Grace Parsons (Corinthians/Wyverns) were key players in defence for their respective teams.

There were six goals scored in the other ladies’ game, but once again the defence played its part led by Jannita Oldham (Corinthians/Wyverns) and Nerida Eastwell (Harlequins).

In men’s hockey, Jack Coy had a strong game for Harlequins in defence and is improving every week.

Jamie Ollerton continues to impress with his strong all-round game for Corinthians.

Don Campbell (Wyverns) and Dave Bergemann (Saints) defended well in the other game which Wyverns won 4-0.

There is a state flavour to men’s hockey with Adam Byrne, Matthew Hagenbach, Greg McDonald and Dion Phillips selected in Queensland masters teams in the past 10 days.
