SOLO world sailor and 2011 Young Australian of the Year Jessica Watson will join renowned poet Rupert McCall and AFL legend Robert DiPierdomenico as ambassadors for the 2012 national Read2Remember initiative.

Read2Remember is a joint initiative of two Sunshine Coast organisations, SunnyKids and The Encouragement Foundation, which aims to improve literacy skills and wellbeing among children throughout Australia.

Sunnykids CEO and Read2Remember founder Chris Turner said the three Ambassadors would play a critical role in promoting the event and encouraging communities to work together by developing supportive networks through schools providing children with opportunities in life.

"As the youngest person to sail solo and unassisted around the world in 2010 and Young Australian of the Year in 2011, Jessica Watson encompasses the qualities Read2Remember wish to instil within young people of Australia," Mr Turner said.

"She was thrilled to come on board and we are delighted to have her involvement as she is such as great role model for our kids.

Rupert McCall found success in his ability to capture the essence of Australia and its heroes through his words. He is the author of five anthologies of verse that have collectively sold over 120,000 copies.

Of note is his Green and Gold Malaria which stirs the emotions about what it means to be an Aussie.

"We are delighted that Rupert has written the Pledge of Remembrance for Read2Remember which will be recited by thousands of children across Australia on Friday September 9," Mr Turner said.

Robert 'Dipper' DiPierdomenico had a successful career as a Hawthorn footballer and Brownlow Medallist before becoming a popular television personality and author of five books.

As an Ambassador for SunnyKids, Dipper has jumped on board with Read2Remeber to highlight the importance of literacy and instilling a love of reading in our kids," Mr Turner said.

Watson, McCall and Dipper have teamed up with children's author Angela Bueti, and artists Lloyd Hornsby and Chloe Hart as official Ambassadors of Read2Remember.

Angela Bueti has written the children's book The Quest for Courage which has been sent to 6,400 primary schools across Australia.

All schools across Australia are invited to register for this free initiative which includes a copy of Rupert's poem Pledge of Remembrance which children will recite on 9 November to commemorate Remembrance Day. Free teaching notes for all year levels also accompany the poem and book.
