More Aurizon workers lose jobs across Central Queensland

RAIL freight operator Aurizon has announced cuts to a total of 14 contract jobs at its operating sites near Sarina, Bowen and Moranbah.

Ten roles at the Jilalan site near Sarina have been cut, while two roles have been cut at Pring near Bowen, and another two cut at Coppabella, near Moranbah.

A spokeswoman said four new roles had been created at Jilalan.

"Aurizon will work with impacted employees to identify possible opportunities for retraining, transfer, redeployment and voluntary relocation," she said. Rail Tram and Bus Union northern district organiser Les Moffitt said the job cuts, following 14 job losses in Townsville just before Christmas, were disappointing.

"They're continually restructuring the business and job-shedding, throughout the whole company," he said.

On December 23, Aurizon's share price dropped 12%, its biggest one-day share price drop in five years.
