Jockeys prepare for jazzy race day

PUNTERS and fashion lovers can enjoy a day of races at Allman Park, Warwick for the Jumpers and Jazz Race day tomorrow.

Gates will open at 11am, with the first of five races to start soon after 1pm.

Hot food will be available to keep visitors warm, and drinks can be bought from any of the three bars.

This will be the second time the event has capped off the festival and turf club secretary Kristen Doyle said she was happy to join in on the Jumpers and Jazz celebrations.

"I think it will build on last year - last year was our first time running a race meet in July," she said.

"Hopefully a few more people might come, and visitors to town will come along to check it out.

"We'll have some trees decorated for people to look at."

Those who attend the race day for fashion could potentially get their hands on the $200 cash prize for best dressed.

Local 16-piece band the Wuppies will provide live entertainment from 4pm.

The group also offers workshops, group sessions and individual tuition in marimba, African drumming, a capella singing, guitar and bass, brass and ukulele

Race goers are encouraged to get in early to secure their trackside seats and pop-up tents.

Visitors are also welcome to bring along their own snacks and nibblies.

The turf club is expecting a large turn-out with an 18th birthday party already set to bring in 80 guests.

But it's no challenge for Ms Doyle who said the club is prepared and ready for a huge day of racing.

"The horses are down at the credit union at the moment in their winter woollies."

A number of local trainers will have their horses on the track, including Michael Hemmings, Les Clarke and Len Bryant.

One horse to watch will be Storm Ahead from race 5 which has won two of his last three races.

The day's events will wrap up by 6pm.

Entry to the Jumpers and Jazz race day is $10 a head.
