Join in WIRAC’s big birthday bash

IT’S time to pull out your swimmers or lace up your runners because the YMCA is celebrating five years at WIRAC.

WIRAC will host a number of events over the weekend to give back to the community.

Centre manager David Jordan said November is always an important time for the year for the facility, who hold celebrations to mark the occasion.

“We believe that there has been a growth and improvement at the centre over that time, and people are wanting to get involved,” Mr Jordan said.

“Our mission is to make a difference to the community, aquatics has proven results for people and in the community.

“Aquatic facilities are a community hub, and that’s what we’ve created here.”

This weekend, WIRAC will host a number of activities in and out of the pool to increase awareness in the community.

“This weekend we’ll be trialling Flippa Ball, which is basically a kid’s version of water polo, Aqua ducks and the Master of Swimming class on Sunday,” he said.

“Our view is, if the numbers and support is there over the weekend, we’ll look at running the programs until the end of the year”

“We’re expecting a wide range of people, anywhere from the really young ones from 5-years up to the 10 – 15-year-olds.”
