Joyce the voice of New England
VOTERS in the Legume area have a new member and a new voice for upgrading the Mt Lindesay Rd following the election of former Queensland senator Barnaby Joyce as the new Member for New England.
Mr Joyce received 66.8% of the two-party preferred vote after last month driving the road from Legume to the Northern Rivers and advocating major improvements.
Re-elected Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott believes the National Party win in the Northern Rivers seat of Page from the ALP would give further impetus to improving the road.
"There will be another advocate on the other side of the border. It is wonderful we will have another ally."
The new member for Page is Kevin Hogan, of the Nationals.
Mr Scott said roads were high on his list of priorities for the seat.
Member for Groom Ian Macfarlane, who represents the area to the north of the Southern Downs, was also re-elected on Saturday despite a swing of 3% to the ALP.
