Judge remarks on improvement in Warwick drafting
CAMPDRAFTING: Judge Stephen Sheppard has no doubt the riders and their horses are getting better each year at campdrafting, Warwick style.
Sheppard is judging for the first time in Warwick and didn't need time to think about it when asked to officiate in the Black Toyota Canning Downs Campdraft.
"The horses and riders are improving each year in Warwick,” he said.
"It is an honour to be asked to judge. I said yes straight away when I received the phone call.”
He hails from Amby near Mitchell and first competed in Warwick in 2014.
Sheppard has had two runs himself in the Gold Cup and wasn't even thinking about whether a score of 84 would qualify him for the second round.
As for judging, he was looking for control of the beast.
"I want someone dominating the cattle a bit but at the same time looking after the cattle.
"Cattle donors are the most important part of the sport.”
