Juggernauts pushed to limits
BASKETBALL: A defiant WIRAC side almost did what no other side has done during this Warwick Basketball Association season and hand defeat to the Juggernauts.
Ultimately the side felt agonisingly short, going down 61-56 after holding a lead in the fourth quarter.
Without Josh Cremasco, the Juggernauts had to dig deep to maintain their unbeaten run.
Sam Byron backed up a 16-point effort in the first half to finish with a team-high 28.
Martin Fernandez came away with 17, and Sam Wall finished with 14.
For WIRAC, Jack Olive produced one of the games of the season to date, leading all scorers with 32.
Alex Cutmore added 14 and Caroline Fern dropped a pair of triples on her way to 8.
The Demons bounced back from their last-start defeat to the ladder leaders, scoring a 63-39 victory over the Juniors.
Kevin Globio was on fire from beyond the arc, hitting five trifectas to finish with a game-high 25. Johnny Cruda led his side with 12 for the Juniors.
This Wednesday, the Juniors will take on the Juggernauts at 6pm, followed by WIRAC facing the Demons at 7pm. Both games will be played at the WIRAC basketball court.
NBL finals start tonight with a double header of action. Melbourne hosts New Zealand at 4.30pm; Perth will travel to Adelaide for a 6.30pm game.
