Junior football kicks off for season
FOOTBALL: Junior football is on for the season at Queens Park with more than 400 juniors registered.
After round 1 was washed out, Saturday was as perfect a day for football as one could expect during winter.
Warwick District Football Association president Garry Spence said the biggest increase in numbers was in the under-12/U13 age group which had increased from five to eight.
"It is good to see strong numbers in the first competitive age group as these numbers will feed into our premier competition," Spence said.
"In age groups up to U12/U13, finals aren't played and scores are not recorded as the emphasis was on fun and everyone participating."
Two Warwick teams played a trial game at Queens Park on Saturday afternoon to prepare for the zone championships.
The Warwick association will host a junior carnival and a round of the zone championships this season.
Junior football will now be played from 8.30am each Saturday to September except for the mid-year school holidays.
