Karla aims to box to more title wins

KARLA Grant experienced her first taste of Australian championship boxing last year and wants more.

She is one of the finalists/monthly winners for the 2017 Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Year award who will be honoured at the February 19 awards at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club.

Karla won her first Queensland Golden Gloves title last year after winning her championship fight against a boxer from the Sunshine Coast.

She then competed in the nationals going down in a split points decision in her first fight.

"It was a great experience to go to the nationals and have Olympian Todd Kidd and Australian boxing coach Mick Daly in my corner,” Kayla said.

Karla is strongly supported in her sport by husband Addison and three children, aged two to nine. She trains five days a week at the Warwick club gym and wants a national title.

Karla is coached by her brother Beau Zwoerner who is based in Brisbane and they try to get together weekly. In her run up to the golden gloves, she received great support from Warwick boxer Chris Fox.
