Karla Bodycote chases modelling dreams

IF YOU see Karla Bodycote wandering through the waves at a beach at 5.30 in the morning, she's probably at work.

The Lower Clarence-based model represented by Vivien's Model Management is attracting nationwide attention from international brands such as Billabong and, in the summer season, that means days on the beach showing off the latest in swim and summer wear.

"I've been doing a lot of work on the beach, mostly around the Gold Coast," she said.

"Also doing a lot of tests to get more photos and to get out there."

Seventeen-year-old Karla left school last year to pursue a full-time modelling dream, and one year down the track says it's going better than she expected.

"It started a little slow, but then the job for three months in Milan came along which was a dream-come-true job," she said.

"I did lot of work over there with good companies like Adidas and, while it was hectic, the reason you go overseas is to get more work and get your name out there.

"Now I'm home I'm keen to keep working with good local brands and let the work branch out from there."

And Karla is quick to debunk the myth the life of a model is all glitz and glamour.

"It's not what everyone thinks. Overseas I had to wait in line for eight hours just for one casting," she said.

"You have to have a thick skin. You're constantly told you're too big, wrong hair colour, that sort of thing.

"What sets me apart is no matter how it's going, I always respect the client I'm working with and have a personality that makes people want to work with you.

"I'm committed to every job I do, and I think it stands me in good stead."
