Hunt faces axe if found guilty

KARMICHAEL Hunt's future in Australian rugby is set to end if he is found guilty of drug possession in court later this month.

Hunt is facing a second drug conviction if the charges are proven, and new Rugby Australia boss Raelene Castle conceded repeat offenders must be treated more harshly.

Hunt was arrested in Fortitude Valley in the early hours of December 30 and charged with drug possession.

The 31-year-old is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 29 on two drugs possession counts.

Media reports say police body cameras allegedly captured Hunt throwing a stack of cash and four pills on the ground when he was approached by officers.

Castle will have no firm position on Hunt until the legal proceedings are finalised.

"The reality is for young athletes, there's a chance to make a mistake and be forgiven for that," Castle said.

"But if you keep making mistakes, that makes the conversations much more challenging.

"As we work through that process we'll look at what the landscape presents to us."
