Third place ranking for Sinkins
WARWICK Kart Club member Brett Sinkins was third overall in the rotax heavy class in round 2 of the Southern Star Series at the Cooloola Coast Kart Track at Gympie.
The Southern Star Series is run over five rounds with drivers competing for points at Cooloola Coast (rounds 1 and 2), Lismore (round 3) and Warwick (round 4). The final series round is in Toowoomba in November.
Sinkins clocked the quickest lap time in qualifying on Sunday morning ahead of 17 other drivers to start heats 1 and 2 in pole position.
After some close and intense racing, he was still setting the quickest lap times in both heats in the field of top drivers and started the pre-final off grid 3.
A shower of rain prior to the running of the pre-final and again before the final meant a change to wet weather tyres and a different set up to the kart.
He finished the pre-final in fourth place which gave him a position on the second row of the grid for the final.
A good start in the final race put him into second place after the first corner and at the end of the day's racing, Sinkins took home third place which will now put him in third place overall in the series.
Sinkins is keen to travel to Lismore in three weeks time for the next round of the Southern Star Series.
A full field of rotax karts driving at speeds of up to 110km per hour is truly spectacular to watch as these karts are some of the fastest on the track at the moment.
He is looking forward to the Queensland Closed State Titles which will be held at the Sandy Creek Kart Track, Warwick, on September 25-26.
The next Warwick race meeting is the Junior Challenge on August 8 which is expected to attract around 150 karts.
