Kenny and Pierce lead Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships

EMERALD cowboy Shane Kenny and Tooma saddle bronc rider Brad Pierce are the only riders to secure two firsts in the first two rounds of the Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships at the Warwick Showgrounds.

Round 3 is at 6pm tonight (Saturday) and round 4 tomorrow at 1.30pm.

Kenny won round 2 in the rope and tie in a time of 11.4 seconds, almost a second slower than his winning time in round 1.

Pierce split first in the saddle bronc in round 2 with fellow New South Wales rider Cody Angland after both scored 79 points.

Victorian rider Bryden Atkins was first in the bull ride with 80 and Digger Hay won the bareback also with 80.

Heath Litchfield (NSW) and Aaron Bookluck (Vic) won the team roping in 6.7 while standings leader Lee Kimber was first in steer wrestling in 5.6.

In cowgirl events, last year's breakaway roping champion Stephanie Gard from Lavington (NSW) showed class in the barrel race to win in 18.014.

There will be campdrafting finals and second-division and junior rodeo events in conjunction with the championships this weekend in Warwick.
