Kenny top cowboy after four rodeo title wins
SHANE Kenny has won four titles in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association this year, one of the most outstanding performances in rodeo history in Australia.
The Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships were held in Warwick for the first time in decades and were rated by rodeo chairman Terry Keogh as a great success with a record Saturday afternoon crowd.
All winners of the Australian championship buckles in Warwick also won the average buckles for best performances in the four rounds of the championships.
Kenny won the all around cowboys title on top of wins in the rope and tie, steer wrestling and team roping.
He joined with Brendan Kenny from Clermont to win the team roping.
The four title wins take his tally to 15 all around titles, 13 in the rope and tie, four in steer wrestling and three in team roping.
Table Top (NSW) rider Stephanie Gard followed up two breakaway roping titles in the past two years with her first all around cowgirl title at the weekend.
She won the title with strong performances in both her events, especially barrel racing where she had wins in two of the four rounds.
Lockington (Victoria) was in the buckle wins with Cherie O'Donoghue winning breakaway roping, her third in the event and ninth overall in the APRA, while Leslie Moore was victorious in barrel racing after clinching the title with a round win yesterday.
O'Donoghue's fiancé Lee Kimber was well placed in his three events.
Tooma (NSW) rider Brad Pierce won saddle bronc with two rounds wins while Troy Wilkinson from Upper Horton (NSW) won the bull ride after being the only cowboy to record three scores in the four rounds.
