Cop talk an 'arresting' experience
THIS school holidays the children of Kids Zone wished they could have adopted their very own cop after they were visited by Warwick's local crime prevention officer.
With smiles upon their eager faces the vacation care group listened intently while Constable Wendy, as she was affectionately known, shared stories of her time on the force.
Kids Zone co-ordinator Leah Holmes said it was wonderful to see the positive response from the kids.
"The idea of the meeting was to reassure the kids that the police aren't scary and if they are ever in trouble they can go to the police for help," she said.
"This was the first time we have done this which was really exciting for the kids and they were still talking about it (yesterday) morning."
Constable Wendy Tamblyn said the group was very interactive.
"The informal presentation to the group was designed to assist in breaking down barriers between primary school aged students and police," she said.
"It was also to educate the students about their behaviours, rights and responsibilities."
The kids all had different favourites from the hour-long session.
"I liked that we were told everything the police do," said Michael Halter.
"Talking about the police dogs was the best bit," said Shauntelle Harris.
