Kilcoy pair take top poultry prizes at Warwick Show
TAKING out one major prize in the poultry section of the Warwick Show is no mean feat, so to have a fowl in three of the eight winning pens was a dream run for a pair of Kilcoy exhibitors.
Darren and Michelle Dangerfield were thrilled when they took out both the Grand and Reserve Champion Fowl of Show awards in the poultry pavilion on Saturday.
Mr Dangerfield said he was happy with his Langshan bantam cockerel taking out the big award.
"He's a good fowl but you never know what will happen," he said.
"We bred him. It's his second show."
For the pit game pullet which won the Reserve Champion award, it was second time lucky.
"This is her second show and second time up there in the winners pens," Mr Dangerfield said.
"She was reserve champion large hardfeather at the Pittsworth Show a few weeks ago."
After 27 years of breeding, Mr Dangerfield said he was off to a great start to the year with his many breeds of prized show poultry.
"We also won reserve champion large hardfeather with a black-red old English game cockerel as well today," he said.
Across the poultry, pigeon and caged bird sections there were several hundred entries, representing a variety of breeds from the smallest of finches to some large geese and ducks.
