Killarney cuts down Gundy in BRL season opener
NEW recruit John Trindall scored five tries as the Killarney Cutters beat Goondiwindi Maroon 70-0 in round 1 action in the Border Rugby League on Saturday at Charlie Andrews Oval.
Backline star Michael Marshall scored four tries and landed seven goals for a personal tally of 30 points.
Goondiwindi Maroons coach Andrew Robinson was happy with the young Boars in their first club game of the year.
"After watching the round robin a fortnight ago, we always knew this was going to be a hard game for the young team," he said.
"Killarney came out the way we thought they would with the likes of John Trindall leading the forward pack, making easy metres up the middle.
"We can take a lot out of the game as the Cutters are the form team. Our side was down on numbers on the bench compared to Killarney."
John Trindall (Killarney) and Adam Tribe (Goondiwindi) were both sin binned.
Trindall, Marshall, Jake Kitching and Nick Parfitt were the best for Killarney. Jeremy Gadd, Adam Tribe and Liam McInnes played well for Goondiwindi.
Wallangarra beat Texas 60-0 in the game at Wallangarra showing a great improvement from last year.
Premiers Inglewood beat Stanthorpe 40-26 at Inglewood in a replay of last year's grand final.
Both sides were without many of their top players from last year.
Goondiwindi Blue scored a try after the full-time hooter to beat Tenterfield 16-10 in the game at Tenterfield.
A Tenterfield kick on the hooter was caught by a Goondiwindi player who scored the winning try.
