Killarney Cutters train on Tuesday to start BRL season
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Killarney Cutters Rugby League Club goes into its 21st year with plenty of confidence after the return of some past players.
The youngest players who were shown the ropes last season by co-coaches Ray Wagner and Leejay Cooper will have more experience.
Killarney and Stanthorpe are the only areas which have been represented in all 20 years of the Border Rugby League.
Stanthorpe fielded teams with Texas last season but are back in their own right this season in a five-club competition.
Cutters president Aaron McKinney said he was pleased with the interest so far.
"Jamie Watts, Peter Giffin, Bradley Green, Troy Weier, Josh Hancock and Rohan Keogh are six past players returning this year,” McKinney said.
Watts has played in New England in recent seasons and Hancock is a former Queensland Cup player.
McKinney said the club had lost two young players from last year who had moved away to work.
"There will be plenty of opportunities to prospective new players to join the club,” he said.
The first training session for the season will be on Tuesday at 6pm at Charlie Andrews Oval on the Killarney Recreation Reserve.
Killarney will host Warwick in the Xylon Smith Memorial Game on March 11.
