Warwick kindy awaits new playground thanks to govt grant

GONE are the days where cup phones and cardboard box cubby houses were children's favourite toys.

These days, it's a whole different playing field.

The children at Goodstart Early Learning kindergarten in Wood St will be spoilt for choice by the end of the week, when they get to try out their new playground.

Complete with two wooden boats, a makeshift river, bridges and bike lanes, there isn't much missing from this kiddie wonderland.

Kindy director Lynn McLean said the revamp was courtesy of an $80,000 government grant to 32 kindergartens across the state.

"With the new National Quality Framework, we have to make sure it is environmentally friendly," Ms McLean said.

"And because ours had a lot of synthetic equipment, we've got to change it.

"So we've got a digging patch and a mulched play area and a cubbyhouse made from a creeper."

Work began last week and Ms McLean said they hoped to have it built by the end of this week, or early next.

"The kids have been glued to the windows watching what's been going on; they're so excited," she said.

The Percy St kindy is also having a new playground put in this week, and they hope it will be finished this week.
