King hit fighter fronts court to face murder charge

A MARTIAL arts fighter has fronted court over the king hit murder of Daniel Christie after the teenager's life support was switched off at the weekend.

Shaun McNeil is accused of attacking Daniel, 18, during a violent rampage at Kings Cross on New Year's Eve.

Daniel was allegedly trying to help two others when he was hit at the same corner where Thomas Kelly was attacked last July.

Grievous bodily harm charges were upgraded to murder after Daniel lost his life at St Vincent's Hospital on Saturday.

NSW Attorney General Greg Smith had urged the DPP to consider a murder charge over manslaughter because of Mr McNeil's martial arts background.

Mr McNeil did not appear in person at Sydney's Central Local Court on Tuesday.

Bail was formally refused and he will front court again in March.
