Firefighters rescue koala from flames of fire
FIREFIGHTERS on the scene of a large fire near Warwick have made contact with the RSPCA after a koala was rescued from the fire area.
The fire has burnt 40 hectares just south of Warwick and is still burning within fire breaks.
There was some damage to fencing in the fire on Sunday afternoon but no damage to structures or livestock losses.
Rural Fire Service area director Tim Chittenden said a koala had been burnt in the fire.
"We are working with the RSPCA to treat the koala," he said.
In all the tragedy of the Victorian bush fires in 2009, one of the symbols of hope were the efforts to save a koala called Sam.
