Kombi van sets a PB for quarter mile
DRAG RACING: The Alder family were in Warwick with eight VWs for the annual VW Warwick weekend at the dragway.
Scott Alder lives at Logan City and races under the Alder Outlaws banner and his favourite is a 1957 V8 Kombi van.
"It was an Ipswich Earthmoving van and I built it into a drag car and raced it this weekend for the fifth time at the VW Warwick weekend,” he said.
He has a best pass of 10.5 seconds for the 400m (quarter mile) at an average speed of 138mph and a best of 6.68 seconds for the (1/8 mile) at an average speed of 106.63mph which he reached at Warwick Dragway at the weekend to set a new personal best.
"I had a lot of hassles on Saturday which is unusual for this car but the tail wind helped my time on Sunday,” he said.
Organiser Craig Hughes from VW Magazine Australia rated the event as excellent despite a short break at lunchtime Sunday for a light shower and then an early finish when the rain returned mid afternoon.
"We had enough racing to get a result,” he said.
