Warwick teenager to serve up Maccas expertise in Vietnam
MCDONALD'S crew member Kyle Nicholson has been offered a trip of a lifetime to help open Vietnam's first-ever restaurant.
Set to travel to Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, Kyle is charged with the task of training Vietnamese workers for the job.
The 17-year-old will join 15 other crew trainers and five managers from various Queensland McDonald's restaurants who have been chosen for their product knowledge, communication skills and ability to train and mentor others.
Kyle will be working in the restaurant, supervising practice sessions in the lead-up to the grand opening on Saturday, February 8, to return in March.
He will also take part in a manager and crew rally during the week where he will join with McDonald's team members from Singapore and the Philippines.
Kyle, who has never been on a plane before, feels he is prepared for a little culture shock.
"I am worried about the language barrier. So I have a Vietnamese app on my phone," said the optimistic 17-year-old.
McDonald's Warwick licensee Trevor Burton said the trip would be a memorable experience.
Kyle, who has worked with the company for two years, was chosen out of Australia's top 5 % of McDonald's restaurants.
"Kyle is an outstanding shift supervisor and to be chosen to take part in this training program is a reflection of his skills and strong work ethic," Mr Burton said.
The trip is part of a training program that has seen McDonald's Australia play a key role in the establishment of the company in Vietnam.
Stanthorpe girl Courtney Cunningham has also been chosen for the trip. Read her story in the Border Post on Tuesday.
