Nick Kyrgios inspires local tennis kids
AS THE Warwick Tennis Association's coaching sessions returned yesterday, it was clear Nick Kyrgios' run at the Australian Open has not gone unnoticed.
The association will run lessons each Tuesday at the courts on the corner of Fitzroy and Lyons Sts.
Beginner's lessons run from 4pm-5pm, intermediate lessons from 5pm-6pm and advanced lessons from 6pm-7pm.
Christie Lyons, who turns 11 this year, said Kyrgios was her favourite player.
Kyrgios was in action against Andy Murray last night, and his run to the Australian Open quarter finals - and possibly beyond - have had a clear impact on the kids.
"I love the way he plays, he's exciting to watch," Christie said.
"I don't know if he will win the tournament though because there is a lot of competition."
Warwick Tennis Association junior development coach Shaun Kanowski said it was good to see an Australian go far in the tournament.
"It's very good, he's reeling in the kids too because of the way he plays," Kanowski said.
"I take Darling Downs and Queensland schools teams away and you see the impact professional players have."
Warwick Tennis Association lessons cost $7 a week for non-members or $6 for members, while kids' Queensland Tennis memberships are also available for $20.
Spots are limited so players are encouraged to sign up quickly.
