Ladies day a hit at Morgan Park

LADIES Day provided a welcoming environment at Morgan Park at the weekend.

Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland president Paul Dawson said the day was a fantastic concept to help get more women involved.

"The day is about getting more women involved in racing, and on track as well,” Mr Dawson said.

"There was a different feel to the day, as it was more relaxed with a greater supporting environment.

"Sometimes women can be hesitant to compete alongside male counterparts, which is why we have riders always providing assistance.”

He said there were plenty of opportunities for women to get on board.

"Motorsport is one of the few sports that has never been segregated due to gender, and has always been inclusive,” he said.

"It is just like riding on the road, without the dangers of distractions or other obstacles. We know a large number of women ride motorbikes on the road, so we would like to get them to the track.”

Sarah Fairbrother, a 10-year veteran of the sport who made the trip from the Gold Coast with parents Lance and Leanne, encouraged women to try it.

"Give it a go, because once you start you won't be able to stop,” she said.

"Some get nervous when competing against the guys, but once you've got the helmets and leathers on, we're all the same.”
