LADIES DAY: Redbacks shine spotlight on women in footy
A DAY at the footy is usually about recording stats and cheering for Emma Gavin, but this week she got to enjoy some well-deserved down time for the Warwick Redbacks AFC Ladies Day.
Held at the Redbacks home ground yesterday, the ladies day aimed to give back to the women who offer support to the Aussie rules clubs in the region.
Ms Gavin's partner plays for the South Towoomba Bombers and she said the Warwick club had done a great job at setting up a pleasant day out for the ladies.
"It brings equality out in sport, it recognises the partners, mums and sisters that play a part,” she said.
Holly Lubben also enjoyed the casual atmosphere at the ladies day.
"I think it's nice for partners to mingle together and watch the game,” she said.
Women who took part in the ladies day enjoyed live music and canapes while watching the game, and also entered into a lucky door prize.
Warwick Redbacks AFC president Ben Lubben said the women of the club deserved recognition.
"If they weren't around, we wouldn't be here playing football. They're the reason we can get out there every week and play,” he said.
"They deserve it, well and truly.”
Mr Lubben said he planned to make Ladies Day an annual event at the club.
