Warwick golfers putt along to mark 80th birthday
THEY may not have had a game of golf in years, but for Joan Lindenberg and Daree Foster turning 80 is like just another day on the green.
The Warwick Golf Club life members celebrated with golfers past and present at Cafe Jacqui's yesterday.
There were plenty of laughs and memories shared as the ladies swapped stories and reminisced about their golfing days.
For Mrs Lindenberg the celebrations are two weeks late.
The long-time local turned 80 on October 22 - celebrating with family in a low-key dinner.
For more than 30 years she played golf at the Warwick Club.
Reflecting on her golfing days, Mrs Lindenberg said they were a lot of fun.
"Us oldies don't say things have changed for the better. We think they were better in our day," she said.
"I had a lot of goals when I started playing golf and I've achieved most of those - except still playing golf at 80."
Mrs Foster hung up her golf clubs several years ago after more than 30 years on the green. "I miss it very much. I still enjoy the scoring and the rules," she said.
"We all got so much enjoyment out of the game.
"We've got lots of stories - lots of happy memories."
She's a few weeks off her official birthday, December 3, but for Mrs Foster it was great to celebrate with friends.
"I'm not a big birthday person but it's great we've all enjoyed it," she said.
There were plenty of speeches and toasts from friends.
Judy Lester thanked the ladies for their friendship.
"I just want to thank them for all they taught me when I was on the committee," she said.
"Thank you for all you've given to the Warwick Golf Club."
So after 80 years of life - what wisdom do the ladies have for readers?
"Live each day to the fullest," Mrs Lindenberg said.
"You don't know what's around the corner."
