Last minute online find a true crowd pleaser at the track

THE first time Sharni Collins met Rick Phillips, she got an insight into his unorthodox fashion sense as he was rocking pink Crocs and a pink Hawaiian shirt.

Today she stood right beside him as they walked the catwalk at the Warwick Picnic Races Fashions on the Field, as he proudly showed off a bright blue suit decorated with pink flamingos.

The fashion masterpiece was a last-minute online find, a detour from the outfit Miss Collins had already selected for the day.

It travelled all the way from Melbourne to be put on show in the fashion contest.

"I don't generally do things by halves,” Mr Phillips said.

"It's the most ridiculous thing I could find so I thought I have to buy it.

"It makes people smile.”

Luckily Miss Collins had an outfit in her wardrobe that would match the vibrant number.

"I liked it, I thought it's definitely going to get a lot of attention,” she said.

"I won't lose him.”

Spotters for the Fashions on the Field event noticed their flair as they walked in the gate.

While they didn't come away with a win this time, the cheers from the audience were enough to show the flamboyant outfit was a real crowd-pleaser.

The couple who did come away with the win for Best Dressed Couple were Chantal and Josh Jones.

The pair grabbed the judges' attention wearing complementing outfits featuring mustard, purple and blue.

Mrs Jones was the brains behind the two outfits, with pieces sourced from Coopers Menswear in Warwick, Millinery By Mel and One Honey Boutique.

She said choosing outfits both people enjoyed wearing was the key to success.

"Sticking to a similar palette and making sure the style you pick you're both comfortable in,” she said.

Mrs Jones said most of her husband's outfit was sourced from Coopers Menswear as they wanted to support local where they could.

"As local business owners we understand the importance,” she said.

"There's no point going to Brisbane every second weekend. Especially during the drought.”

When it was time to crown the Best Dressed Lady, Ellie McVeigh was stunned to find out she was the judges' choice.

The mother-of-four admitted she actually enjoyed dressing her little ones more than herself and had stayed up until 10pm to make a mini bowtie.

"I love men's fashion,” she said.

"It's hard to find things for boys so I thought I'd just do it myself.”
