Latest news from the TRL grand finals

RUGBY LEAGUE: A Valleys try 40 seconds from full-time ended Warwick's hopes of a victory in the Toowoomba Rugby League under-18 grand final today at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

Warwick centre Dustin Close scored the first try of the game, Kai Etherington converted for a Warwick 6-0 lead.

Valleys replied with a converted try and then scored another three minutes from half-time for a 10-6 lead.

Warwick scored after a dropped Valleys ball midway through the second half but a try was not allowed.

Valleys dropped out and in the next six tackles Warwick forward Michael Coleman ran hard from 10m out and scored despite the attention of four defenders.

Etherington converted to reduce the margin to four.

Warwick took play well inside Valleys' half late in the game but three dropped balls didn't help the Cowboys' chances.

Valleys had the ball late in the game and scored wide out for an eight-point win.

Warwick coach Matt Grew said his side wasn't too far away from a premiership victory.

"I couldn't have been more proud of the way the boys competed,” he said.

"We gave away some field position and didn't capitalise on our field position as well as we could have.”

"The bigger Valleys boys did a lot of work in the middle.

"The team really appreciates all the support we have received.

"Cowboys footy is very much alive.”

Warwick went into the game without second rower Will Dearden who broke his hand last weekend, a loss that Grew conceded didn't help his team's grand final chances.

In the early game, Gatton beat Dalby 24-0 in second-division with Warwick-based half Wesley Murray winning player of the match.

Rain started to get heavy during the reserve-grade game between Gatton and Valleys as fans waited for the 2.30pm kick-off in A grade between Warwick and Pittsworth.

Midway through the second half, Gatton led 16-4 in reserve grade.
