Laura Geitz in with a chance to win ANZ championship

THE girl from the best little town on the Downs has the chance to win a second ANZ Championship netball grand final after her team, the Queensland Firebirds, qualified with a win against Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in Brisbane on Monday night.

Laura Geitz is originally from Allora and part of the rich sporting heritage of the town on the banks of Dalrymple Creek.

She more than played her part in the preliminary final win against the Magic from New Zealand.

There may be a good omen that former Warwick West State School student Clare McMeniman is in the team again as the pair played in the premiership win by the Firebirds three years ago before McMeniman took a break from the game.

Romelda Aiken led the scoring for the Firebirds with 36 as the team from Queensland won 54-50 in the preliminary final in front of a capacity crowd in Brisbane.

The victory sets up a rematch of the major semi final when the Melbourne Vixens beat the Firebirds by five goals a week ago.

The Vixens will host the grand final on Sunday.
