Laura home after wins

LAURA Geitz is home from a successful Australian Diamonds tour of the United Kingdom and already thinking about the ANZ Championships.

The Allora goal keeper played in each game on tour, and was credited by coach Norma Plummer with turning the final game against England around when the Diamonds recovered from a large deficit to win by two goals and secure the series 2-1 last week.

Geitz doesn’t envy the job of coach Norma Plummer as she finalises a squad of 12 for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in October.

“It will be a tough selection process for a lot of girls,” Geitz said.

“We don’t know where we stand, you just have to prove yourself in the ANZ Championships.”

It is three weeks to the start of the championships and Geitz realises a strong performance by her team, the Queensland Firebirds, will boost her games selection chances.

“If the Firebirds are in the semis and finals, I will be looked at more, the selectors will look at team combinations as well,” she said.
