Rockhampton entertainment venue gets council green light

ROCKHAMPTON Regional Council has given Lazy Acres the official tick of approval after a lengthy debate over its development application.

The application was approved during the full council meeting yesterday, after being debated in the planning and regulatory meeting last week.

During that meeting, issues were raised about road safety, dust creation, noise and light emission, development precedent and the potential for increased crime. However, each of these issues were addressed through development conditions, including the use of dust mitigation measures before and after any events held at the site.

Lazy Acres has been operating since May 2015 as a function venue and has hosted spectator sports like rodeos and barrel racing.

It's understood the venue won't be able to host functions until some compliance issues are resolved.

Councillor Ellen Smith said the issues raised in the committee meeting were covered by the conditions on the development approval.

"It's a great development and a good thing for our area," she said.
