League coach wants complete sets

MATTHEW McCarthy, Jason Nightingale, Nick Colthup, Luke Baker and Josh Johnstone were the best as Wattles went down 70-10 to Gatton at Platz Oval on Sunday.

Wattles coach Cameron Hamblin said his side had no possession in the first 15 minutes of the game.

“We played better in the remainder of the first half before making too many simple errors in the second half,” Hamblin said.

McCarthy and Nightingale scored tries for Wattles and Brady Glass landed a goal.

Hamblin is still upbeat about the spirit in the team despite some losses by large margins in recent weeks.

“We have had a lot of players out with injury and have met the top five teams in the past six weeks,” Hamblin said.

On Sunday, Wattles plays a team from the bottom half of the table, Pittsworth at Pittsworth.

“We just have to complete our sets and we will be in with a chance of a win, our side is not getting the one per cents right at the moment,” Hamblin said.

Back rower Dan Sullivan will return from injury this weekend.

The Wattles U18 side beat Gatton 28-26 with a surge late in the game.

In reserve grade, Wattles went down to Gatton 70-16.

This weekend’s fixtures are the last in the first round as teams vie for the top-two spots to make the President’s Cup finals on July 4.

The A-grade cup final is played for the Madsen Rasmussen Trophy.

Valleys are assured of one spot in the final.

Dalby can secure the second spot with a win against Warwick in the match of the day at Father Ranger Oval on Sunday.

If Gatton beats Brothers at Cahill Park, Gatton, Warwick could secure the second cup final spot on for and against with victory against Dalby.

The first of four games at Father Ranger Oval on Sunday is C grade at 10.15am.
