Five-eighth is best for Wattles

SCOTT Murdoch was the players’ player as Wattles went down 68-24 to Newtown in the TRL game at Newtown Oval on Sunday.

Murdoch was moved from wing to five-eighth to cover for the absence of Tim Hentschel who was out with injury.

Centre Matthew McCarthy also played well.

Jason Nightingale and Jesse Keys were the best of the Wattles forwards.

McCarthy, Murdoch, Luke Baker, Luke Miller and Xavier Manley scored tries for Wattles and Brady Glass landed two goals.

The good news at the weekend for Wattles was the return of classy backs McCarthy and Brenden Wilson who both came through a tough encounter without any injury concerns.

Newtown won reserve grade 54-12 and were also victorious 40-22 in the under-18 match.

Wattles are at home to competition leaders Dalby on Sunday.

The under-18 game at 11.30am is the first of three on the day.
